Introducing Bluebelle
Friday December 8, 2006 by Paul Martin
There is currently an auction underway for a signed teddy bear on behalf of Animals Asia which is being run by the MSN fan site. It is a lovely bear signed by me! Maybe it would be the perfect Christmas present for someone special…lets hope it raises lots of cash.
Teddy Bear auction for Animals Asia have had fantastic news from Animals Asia. Due to everyones kind support you will be pleased to hear that they have managed to rescue some more bears, one of which they have named after Bluebelle. I feel really honoured that Animals Asia have decided to do this and I sure you agree that Bluebelle is a very appropriate name for such a beautiful bear.
Jill Robinson, the founder of Animals Asia has sent me the following information about Bluebelle – a sad tale with hopefully a very happy ending. Bluebelle was rescued in October:
Bear number 217 – Bluebelle – has just this afternoon been cut from her rusting home of a crush cage for a full health check. For a young, wild caught bear missing her front left limb at the elbow, and with sightless eyes of mature and cloudy blue cataracts, she is astonishingly sweet and gentle. How she could have even thought of licking apricot jam earlier from fingers of a species who have virtually tried to kill her is astonishing. Evidence of bar biting during her years of desolation and frustration on the farm have led to worn and broken tips of her canines and incisors. A small hole leaking bile and nestled inside a hernia shows the extent of the damage of the so-called surgeons employed to perform this butchery on the farms. Now waking up in a roomy recovery cage, lying on straw and looking forward to finishing the jam, Bluebelle, like the rest of the bears this week is finally on her way to a peaceful and long overdue recovery.
A big thank you to all of you that have helped to raise money for the charity.
Best wishes,
Paul
